Misogyny on Twitter has been well-documented. Just last week, Anita Sarkeesian, who analyzes how video games treat women in the web series “Tropes vs. Women,” left her home after death threats she received on Twitter contained her address.

A new report from BI Intelligence found that while “gender is no longer a major differentiator of who uses social networks,” Twitter is becoming “more male-centric” over time. At this time last year, the percentage of women and men on Twitter were almost equal. By January of this year, 22 percent of Internet-using men were on Twitter, compared to 15 percent of women.
This is a “chicken or egg” issue — but these changes in demographics are certainly not going to help the site’s troll problem.
